Reading

Reading is the most important skill students in grade 1 need to develop.  We are teaching your children to become better readers every day!  Every day we provide an opportunity for your child to "Read to self" and think about what they are reading through different reading strategies.  We have developed expectations together and the children have been practicing and building more stamina each day!  We want your children to grow an appreciation for reading because reading is FUN!  For the next few weeks, we will be teaching your child how to make connections while reading.  They will begin to think about how the story reminds them about their life, experiences, people they know, and places they've been.  When reading at home, be sure to ask your child if the story reminds them about anything and have them explain what in the story made them think about that.

Here are some pictures about your child is reading to themselves in class and it would be a good idea to practice these routines at home.
